What it is
HDP compensates duty in locations or missions with exceptionally demanding conditions. The common version is HDP-Location, paid monthly while assigned in a designated hardship location. There are also mission and tempo versions.

Up to $150 per month for HDP-Location, depending on the location designation.
What goes wrong
Like all location pays, the risk windows are arrival and departure. Check the start and stop months against your orders.
